lithops, sometimes called living stones, are native to namibia. mother nature engineered these little guys to be tolerant of low-nutrient soil and extreme weather conditions.

w a t e r

living stones will grow a new set of leaves out of the old leaf split once a year.  watering should be discontinued once this happens (winter through spring) and should resume only one the old leaves are completely withered and dry (summer through autumn). during watering season, over watering is still a concern.  allow the lithops to completely dry out between waterings.
